It’s been about 2 weeks now since using my Garmin Vivofit 2 and I have to admit…I get the hype around wearable tech now. While I don’t think they’re a necessity, wearables are definitely entertaining to have. Thanks to the increase in demand and the increase in competition I think we can expect the price to go down which may make the investment well worth it. Here are some of the features, benefits, and complaints about the Vivofit 2:

1) The Vivofit not only tracks the steps (very accurately), but it sets goals for you that change over time which makes every day a little more interesting.
2) The Vivofit 2 will beep if you’ve been sitting for an hour, and then every 15 minutes until you start walking for a few minutes again.
3) The SLEEP feature is also very accurate and shows you your sleep patterns/habits.
4) The app that syncs with the watch is great, easy to use, and really interesting in terms of seeing your activity laid out in front of you.
5) Less expensive than the competition if you’re looking for a simpler activity tracker at a lower price point.
6) I personally like the way the Garmin Vivofit 2 looks more than the FitBit and the clasp locks which is a great feature compared to the FitBit where the nobs in the clasp just barely fit in place with the strap.
1) In order to track your heart rate you need to purchase a separate heart rate monitor that I believe straps around your chest. Other fitness trackers have the technology built into the watch (FitBit, Apple Watch) but they also come at a higher price point.
2) There’s one button that you use to cycle through all of the different settings (aka not touch screen like the rest of the 21st century), and it can be a pain in the ass to control at times (for me anyway, I haven’t heard my coworkers complain).
3) Limited features, no touchscreen, aside from occasional beeping it isn’t very interactive.
For about $70 you could have a great quality activity tracker that does essentially what the other wearables do. I love that my step goal increases over time and now I always look at my wrist to see how many steps I got. Sometimes I go for a long walk outside just to try to beat my goal. If you want a wearable with a lot of features like touchscreen, additional apps, an alarm clock, heart rate monitor, step tracker, and more than you may want to consider the Apple Watch. Just be ready to invest nearly $300 for all of that technology.Overall, the Garmin Vivofit 2 is definitely worth the $60-70 that it retails for and now I may be looking into an Apple Watch in the future. These things are addicting!
